The ‘Johnny Waddell Beacon Award’
In 2009, a special award was introduced and given to the person who is the ‘shining light’ of the event. This Award carries the name of local mountain bike legend John Waddell, and is open to any participant, irrespective of their level of mountain bike skills. To find out more about Johnny please click here.
Congratulations to Bruno Wicki, who received the inaugural Beacon Award from the 2009 event. He received a perpetual trophy in the form of the symbolic lighthouse at which the Cape to Cape event begins. Bruno has ridden in each of the first two events and has clearly embodied what the event is all about. Each day he rides as hard as possible and after each Stage he is one of the first to socialise with everyone and is always featured at the nightly post race photo displays with his long, flowing grey beard.
